JANUARY 6, 2023

The lure of birthstones. How beautiful and powerful it feels to have our month of birth represented by a unique natural gemstone? We can own and display our special stone and feel embraced by its beauty.

Scholars trace the origin of birthstones back to the biblical Book of Exodus. Aaron wore a religious garment (the Breastplate of Aaron) with 12 unique gemstones representing each of the 12 tribes of Israel. However, it wasn’t until the 18th century that gemstones began to be assigned according to birth month.

Then, in 1912, the "enterprising" National Association of Jewelers (now called Jewelers of America) created the modern day list of birthstones and set a standardized list of birthstones by month which we currently follow.  The “modern” list of birthstones boasts gems that have only been widely available for the past 100 or so years.

Here at The Fête we LOVE birthstones, and you can choose from a variety of birthstone charms and studs to gift yourself, friends, and family with.

We have consulted the stars and our astrological prediction is that The Fête's zodiac charms are the perfect golden compliment to any outfit.

Hand cast from either 14k solid gold or vermeil (a thick layer of 18k gold plating over 925 sterling silver) these horoscope charms can be worn on a thin necklace chain, layered on bracelets or delicately dangling from our custom hoop earrings.

The history of astrology dates back more than four thousand years to the first great civilizations of the world. These societies used constellations to predict the changes of the seasons and climatic events. Constellations were also a part of their religious worldview.

The names of the constellations of the western zodiac actually come from the twelve Olympian gods of Greek mythology.  Each god is the protector of his own sign, and every sign denotes a different personality type with its own strengths and weaknesses.
